Jessabelle - 2015
The titles used in Jessabelle - 2015 are particularly effective because of the background, fonts, layout and colour. The background is a slightly blurred forest with a green tint. The colour green has connotations of horror and makes the background look all the more gruesome. The font is simple and looks like the kind you would see in every day situations. This sense of familiarity is effective as these subtleties make the trailer seem slightly more realistic, meaning it can use humans' masachistic desires to its advantage. Having the titles in the center of the screen is effective as it's the first thing your eyes are drawn to, meaning the audience will almost definitely read them. The colour of the font is consitantly black, a typical colour of horror as it signifies death, however it does also look professional. It also stands out well against the background making it easier for members of the audience to read.
Treehouse - 2014
The simple and clear titles are effective and stand out well against a faintly patterned background. They are all in the middle of the screen meaning the audience's attention is drawn to it. The use of the classic, simple font is effective as it is recognisable in everyday life, making the trailer all the more terrifying as the audience will associate it with real life. They are not too big which again is effective as it makes the audience feel slightly on edge as it is the unknown emptiness many people fear.
Amityville: The awakening - 2015
In the Amityville the awakening teaser trailer the titles are kept in a simple font to make it easy and clear for the viewers to read. It stands out against the dark wall in the background with blood running down it. I also like how the titles get bigger when it says 'lies' 'real' 'evil' because it grips the viewer and gives them an idea of what the films about. All the titles are in the same font and are on the same background which makes it look very professional.
Annabelle - 2014
In the Annabelle teaser trailer the titles are really effective as they stand out from the dark background which makes the titles easy for the viewers watching to read. I like how the titles fade in and out of the shot to make it more spooky for the viewers as they get a quick look at the titles. The font again is very simple and recognisable, making them look clean and professional.
Conclusion
From looking at sucessful trailers, we have concluded that our titles need to be clean, clear and professional looking. We will make sure to go for a simple colour scheme, font, and keep all our titles the same in order to achieve the same level of professionalism these trailers have. By keeping all of our titles the same, we are beginning to create a brand identity which is essensial when trying to advertise a movie or product.
