Sound and Dialogue analysis
The Grudge - 2004
This trailer has both non and diegetic sounds in it. The non diegetic sounds create an unusual and unsettling atmosphere as the sounds not relevant in every day life. The diegetic sounds make the audience feel as though they are actually in the trailer and experiencing what the killer/victim is.
The soundtrack builds up the suspension for the audience with the Yuri making the noises in the background. It gives the audience an idea of what they should expect or allows them to create an image of the antagonist. However, much of the sounds in my opinion don't quite fit with what is happening. This can be effective as it can make the audience feel uncomfortable, however, I believe in this case it juts looks brashly put together. |

A Nightmare On Elm Street - 2010
|
Again, this trailer has both non and diegetic sounds in it which makes the audience feel as though they are actually in the trailer and experiencing what the killer/victim is.
The soundtrack they have used is effective as it tension and encourages the audience to anticipate what is going to happen next. It goes with the clips excellently as it isn't too busy or cluttered which makes it seem eerily calm, making the audience feel on edge as they are focussing more on what is happening on screen. However, it does not feature any jump scares which I think would really help make this trailer more scary and therefore encourage more people to find out more or even got and see it. |

Annabelle - 2014
At the start of the Annabelle teaser trailer the soundtrack starts off being quite upbeat until the man starts speaking to the woman, that's when the music stops. Throughout the teaser trailer there's a lot of moments where the soundtrack builds up suspense for the audience watching. Half way through the teaser trailer there's a lot of quick fast paced shots which has a fast paced soundtrack to fit in with the clips to get the audience's heart racing. After about 5 seconds of the fast paced soundtrack the sound then drops to to create even more suspense for the audience watching, making them think something might jump out. The soundtrack then starts building up suspense again as the shot zooms in closer on the Annabelle doll. The soundtrack creates a lot tension for the audience watching making them think what's going to happen next.

Sinister - 2012
|
The Sinister teaser trailer starts off with the voice of news reporter saying how "none of the cases have been solved", this automatically grips the audience making them feel curious as to what has happened. This then leaves suspense and tension for the audience watching right at the very start of the teaser trailer. The soundtrack throughout the teaser trailer keeps building up suspense right till the end of the trailer to create even more tension for the audience, making them scared of what might happen. The dialogue over the top of the soundtrack gives the audience and idea of what the films going to be about because it gives them a brief summary of what to expect from the film without spoiling it by giving too much away.
