Distribution companies are responsible for advertising films through the use of TV, posters, magazines and other media platforms. They're "theme" is not associated with that of the film and they usually have a universal or neutral sounding name. Most companies do not distribute one specific genre of film, which is why it is important for their logo to be iconic yet unrelated to any of the genres of film. |
COLUMBIA
Columbia are a very popular distribution company within the industry of film. They have produced many films of different genres such as Charlies Angles, Bewitched and James Bond Quantum of Solace. We feel that the title "Columbia" is effective as it is a stand alone word which comes across as quite striking. The theme of the distribution company is nothing to do with the genre of the film, which is why we think it would be effective to do a similar style of distribution company when we need to make our own for our opening title sequence.
Columbia are responsible for the distribution of a variety of films, including The Bounty Hunter - 2010, Men in Black 3 - 2012 and Hitch -2005.
LIONSGATE
Lionsgate is another example of a distribution company. Once again, their theme is nothing to do with the genre of the film they are distributing. The name is also one, stand alone word, which is effective as it is memorable. The font is also sophisticated and the colour scheme is also simple, therefore we think it would be a good idea to do the same when we make our own distribution company.
Lionsgate are responsible for the distribution of a variety of films, including Shadow of The Vampire - 2000, Shattered Glass - 2003 andKillers - 2010.
PARAMOUNT PICTURES
Paramount Pictures' logo has a simple, clear font and colour scheme. They use a neutral landscape which is not associated with the types of films they distribute. We feel the name of the company, Paramount Pictures, is effective as it is not linked with a specific genre of film or movie. The sophisticated look of the logo is something we would like to recreate in our own distribution company logo.
Paramount Pictures are responsible for the distribution of films such as The Sender - 1982, Vampire in Brooklyn - 1995 and Paranormal Activity - 2009.
DISTRIBUTION LOGOS IN TEASER TRAILERS
We decided to look at how long Distribution Company logos appeared on the screen in the teaser trailers of horror films.

In each trailer, they last for literally a second. We had to keep this in mind when creating ours as it had to be clear enough to see in a second.
Our Distribution Company
Looking at other distribution companies, we have decided to use a generic, universal name as it should not be related to horror at all. Our moving image background will also be non-horror related. We think it would be effective to use a simple font and colour scheme, as it will help give our distribution company a modern and professional look. Ideally we would like the name of our company to be a stand alone word as we feel this creates a bigger impact and makes it more memorable.
